Meet the Homeowners Safety Video

Situation: In our HOA community, there had been an increase in safety concerns, including minor thefts, vandalism and dangerous fast driving throughout the neighborhood. The HOA board recognized a need to better educate the community members about safety precautions.

Task: As the President of the HOA board, I was tasked with creating an engaging and informative animated video that would effectively communicate the impact of thefts, vandalism, and reckless driving on our neighborhood both physically and financially, and also provide encouragement to work together for a better and safer community.

Action:

1. Conducted interviews with the HOA board, local law enforcement, and community members to gather information on specific safety issues and what precautions should be highlighted.

2. Researched effective communication strategies for community engagement and public safety to ensure the video would be both informative and compelling.

3. Wrote a script that included real life incidents and safety tips. The script was designed to be clear and concise, suitable for all age groups.

4. Worked closely with Fiverr voice actor for the narrative portion of the video, and created/edited the animated video using PowToons and soundtrack and SFX from AudioJungle.net to ensure that the tone was friendly and authoritative, encouraging compliance and participation from community members.

5. Distributed the final video through multiple channels: it was emailed to all community members, posted on the HOA’s website, and played during HOA meetings.

6. Implemented a feedback system to measure the video's effectiveness and gather suggestions for future updates.

Result: The animated video was well-received by the HOA community, with over 80% of members viewing the video within the first month of release. Feedback indicated that 70% of viewers found the information helpful and easy to understand. The HOA reported a 40% increase in community members attending monthly safety meetings and a significant decrease in reported incidents within six months after the video’s release.

This project not only improved safety awareness among the residents but also fostered a stronger sense of community and cooperation.
