AI + ADDIE in Action: Design Phase

A Real-World Instructional Design Case Study (Fictional Client)

What happens after Analysis?

This is where ideas become intentional. This case study showcases how I translated stakeholder insights, learner resistance, and business goals into a fully realized learning experience design, powered by both instructional design principles and AI as a strategic partner.

This is not just course design.
This is learning architecture.

The Challenge

A benefits management company (Healthy R U) is preparing to introduce AI tools across the organization.

The problem?

Adoption resistance.

  • Employees fear job displacement

  • Leaders lack hands-on experience with the tools

  • Trust in AI decision-making is low

  • Regulatory and compliance concerns are high

The organization doesn’t just need training. It needs a shift in mindset, behavior, and confidence.

Each module begins with a scene, not a slide. Because before learners accept instruction,

they need to see themselves in the story.

Meet the Experience

This design includes:

✔ A complete Character Bible (with AI-generated visual prompts)
✔ 9 fully scripted modules (dramatic scenes + instructional flow)
✔ A branded learning pitch deck with narrative speaker notes
✔ A defined learning strategy and modality approach
✔ A multi-tool production pipeline integrating AI and traditional development tools

The AI Advantage

Traditionally, this level of design would require a/an:

  • Instructional Designer

  • Scriptwriter

  • Visual Designer

  • Developer, and

  • Multiple rounds of iteration

In this case?

Claude AI was used as a thinking partner and creative collaborator to:

  • Accelerate ideation

  • Expand creative direction

  • Maintain consistency across narrative and visuals

  • Reduce time from concept to first draft

Not to replace the work, but to enhance the process.

What This Demonstrates

This project reflects how modern instructional design can:

  • Move beyond content delivery into experience design

  • Address emotional and behavioral barriers to learning

  • Scale storytelling as a strategic learning tool

  • Leverage AI without compromising instructional integrity
